Monster Slayer

The Slayer of Monsters has a headdress of Eagle feathers and is carrying a bow. He is a major Yei/Deity of Navaho mythology. His mother is Changing Woman, and his father is the Sun. Changing Woman is the central figure involved with the Blessingway Chant.

This rock art site is called Dinatah by the Navahos, meaning the Holiest Place on Earth. There were many Holiest Place(s) on Earth, rather than just one. Many times what was plentiful was considered valuable rather than what was scarce.

This site was probably used by chiefs to receive visions/oracles. There was a belief that these Yeis/Deities actually lived at this site, and supernatural events have occurred here. By means of prayers and offerings one can communicate with the Spirit World. This site is very old Navaho homeland.
